I don't know how you did it, but you made everything work together perfectly. The piano got a bit quiet at some parts, but not enough so that it's unhearable, but that's not nearly enough to take off a half-star.

Let's hope for more amazing music in the future :D

balderdact responds:

I'm glad you liked it!
The story with the quiet piano was to try and reduce the amount of distortion the final product had but I guess I overdid it a little bit hehe
I'll keep that in mind for my next chillstep song like this :D

When I first saw the title, I was extremely confused. There's already a song called "Adrift-Chillstep", so you might want to change the title to avoid confusion.

Now about the song. The piano and chord progression were nice, but I feel that the drums didn't fit with the song at some points. Take, for example, the drums at :17. There's nothing wrong with them alone, but they don't fit with the song. I can't explain it too well, but you might want to put a bit more thought into using which type of drum. It could just be me, though, to take this review with a grain of salt.

I'll give it a 3.5/5.

realdurianhead responds:

Hmmm yeah, to be honest this song isn't my best :] I'm making lots of stuff meanwhile, so yeah. I'll change the name when I find a suitable new one. Thanks :)

I'll change the drums :)

The intro went on a bit long, for me I would have stopped it at :18 or maybe :24

The part at :28 seen
ms inconsistent with itself. I may sound crazy for this, but the instruments and the drums contradict each other in terms of pacing. The instruments are fast-paced and upbeat, while the drums seem more laid-back. Other then that though, the first part was pretty good. In fact, the drums at :37 match the pacing much better and probably should have been in there from the beginning.

The part at :46 sounds really nice :D

There's a bit more contradictory drums at 1:04. The music is laid back, while the drums are fast paced.

Part at 1:25 also nice :D

The random sound at 1:41 was unexpected and did nothing but throw me off.

The part at 2:09 just feels... empty compared to the rest of the song. You probably should have just jumped to 2:20. Or kept the instrument in instead of dropping it.

Speaking of 2:20, the piano seems to be just a little off-tempo.

The song definitely carries the upbeat tunes Kirby's known for (I think he's known for that?), but I can't really imagine this in a Kirby game, probably because of all the odwntime with the pianos and stuff. That's not a bad thing, it's jist not really something you'd expect in a Kriby theme.

Overall, I can't really find a lot wrong with this song.

4.5/5

Evilgrapez responds:

Thanks for the feedback! I don't think Kirby's known for just his upbeat tunes. He's known for much more than that (Google him sometime and I think you'll see what I mean lol). Originally, there was no transition in 1:41, but I wanted there to be a sound there that sounded like a warp star for a transition. I thought it was a nice touch, but to each his own, I guess.

Thanks for your review!

The ambiance in the beginning is real, and it gets so much better with headphones.

The transition at :42 is sudden, but smotoh. It caught me off-guard a bit.

I like the synth at :56, it oddly fits in well.

The sudden change from ambience to energy at 1:12 was not expected, but it was done really well.

Also, I'm not sure if this is a headphones thing or intentional, but the whole 1:12 part sounds a bit static-y.

Again, nice transition at 1:53. It's sudden, yet pulled off really well.

The piano part at 2:08 really doesn't fit and is a bit shallow because no bassline. There's also a few notes in there that seem a bit off-key.

The 2:20 transition doesn't really work. The synth and piano parts, while they sound similar, really end up only clashing against each other.

I really like the part at 2:34. The instrument really fits and sound great.

I swear I've heard the part at 2:47 before, but I don't know where. It still sounds good, though.

The part at 3:13 really sounds off. The instrument just doesn't fit. The piano helps a bit, but the instrument just sticks out in a bad way.

I swear I started hearing some sort of flute in the background at around 3:32.

4:09 has another sudden transition, but it flows in a way. I have no idea how you do that.

Also in 4:09, the drumbeat for some reason seems a bit off-tempo.

The part at 4:36 would have made a really cool ending, and it tricked me into thinking it was. And frankly, it should have been the ending. The ending piano riff was both out of place and unsatisfying. So close...

3.75/5, Rounding up to 4

Evilgrapez responds:

Thanks for the review! The part at 4:36 was originally the ending, but I thought it'd be cool to have a little piano riff at the end. I guess it didn't pay off, but oh well. As for the flute thing, I don't actually know what you're talking about. One of the VST instruments in the song is called "Magic Flute" if that helps. :P And as for the staticy stuff at 1:12, I don't really know what that's about, lol.

Thanks again!

I really like the mood of this song. It's set immediately, and from what I can tell so far, it stays consistence throughout the song. The instruments also work pretty well together, so I like that.

:40 sounds more like a Night theme. It's rather peaceful, what with the slightly slower tempo and all.

That being said, :54 was kind of confusing at first, because this harsh, electronic synth just burst right into the once-tranquil melody.

The tone shifts somepoint around 1:00 to accomodate the synth, and I like the background instrument around 1:05.

I don't really agree with a violin in the middle of the synth-y, heavy drum-y part, but it may sound better in game.

1:26 And another abrupt tone switch. The separate parts don't sound bad, but the transitions could use a bit of work.

And that's all I can really say about the song, A good thing I can say is that I never got bored or thought a part overextended its stay.

The main problem with this song it that it doesn't know what it wants to be. It's part slow, sad music, part battle music, part exploration theme, and part ambience. The individual parts themselves are really good, but put together it's rather meh.

Despite it's shortcomings, I did enjoy this song, so I'm giving it a 3.5/5.

Evilgrapez responds:

Thanks for the review! I guess it doesn't really not know what it wants to be, but that's kinda what I like about it. IDK what's wrong with me, lol.

I've never been good at reviewing remixes, so I'll just treat it as if it was a completely new song.

I really like the track at :12 (not sure what to call it). It just seems to add a lot of depth.

The part from :32 to 1:17 got really repetitive and half of it could easily be removed to make it sound a bit less boring. You shouldn't worry about making your songs long, keeping songs interesting is much more important,

The track at 1:17 sounds... oddly inspiring in a way. Not a bad thing, just something I noticed.

I really like the basslines in this track, you did a good job with that :)

The part at 2:09 was a bit of a letdown, mainly because you went from about 4 instruments down to 1, and the contrast really makes it seem a bit empty. As a general rule of thumb, I almost never let one instrument play by itself.

The drums at 2:22 start one beat late, as well as the change to snares. Also, the rapid-snares kind of shatter the mood of the song.

2:37 I really liked. I can't put my finger on it, but there's this one instrument in the background that gave the song a real sense of depth. Also, the rapid-snares sounded much better here.

I like the ambience at 3:02, but the sudden, sharp notes kind of disrupt that.

3:32 That piano section seems a bit out of place, because a) it doesn't fit with the theme of the song and b) It goes completely out of tempo with the rest of the song. In fact, that entire last section probably should have been cut. The filter doesn't fit with the song and seems boring compared to the rest of the energetic song.

Since I'm in the mood for a ProJared-esque review, I'll give one.

I give this song a Bag of Jelly Beans out of Ten. It has some really tasty parts, but there's always those few Jelly Beans you don't like and would have preferred stayed in the store.

But since NewGrounds won't accept that, I'll give it a 4.

Evilgrapez responds:

Oh my gosh, you're back! I missed your reviews! xD

Thanks so much for the constructive review! I agree now that the ending should have been cut out and replaced, and as for the instrument at 2:37...could it be the arp in the background? IDK. :S

Thanks for the review!

I really like how you paid attention to all of the little details from the original song.

Really, my only complaint is the use of those claps. They just... don't really fit. But it's really not a big deal.

I love what you did with the song :D

KamillasRainbow responds:

Thanks a lot! :)

Personally, I love these shorter songs. They don't get dull and are interesting to listen to.

I like the energetic vibes from the song. It's inspiring, in a way.

I like the drum drops at around 1:10, they work really well with the theme of the song.

The drops are full of energy, I really like that.

In my opinion, you should have ended the song at 2:10. I just feel it would end better that way.

Evilgrapez responds:

Yeah, I like this song a lot too. This is the one I play the most on my 2DS. Thanks for your feedback. :D

The first part of the song is really good. The only thing I have to say about that it is that at 1:10, one of the instruments seems to be out-of-sync at a few places with the rest of the song. I can't really point it out, so I hope you know what I'm talking about.

The part at 1:36 starts to sound all clustered up, and the instrument doesn't sync well with the existing melody.

Again, the part at 2:28 sounds all clustered. That one vocal seems to be the weakest link holding the rest of the song back.

I like the part around the 3-minute mark, but it's just.. uneventful. It just feels empty for a while. Same with the part around 4:15.

I don't know about you, but to me most of the drops sound the same. Same melody, same instruments, same everything.

Congrats on beating your own longest song time, but a lot of it is repeated stuff. You could probably trim this song to about 4:30 by cutting out some of the repeating parts.

The song isn't by any means annoying to listen to, it just gets stale after a while. It's worth it to cut a minute from the song length in order to keep it interesting.

Evilgrapez responds:

Thanks. I'm not actually sure what you're talking about when you say the instruments are out of sync. But hopefully I'll figure it out soon enough. :P

- Evilgrapez

To be honest, this sounds more like some sort of cool technological world than a desert, but whatever.

The instrument at :50 completely overpowers tge other instruments. Lower its volume a bit.

The drop goes on about twice as long as it should have, in my opinion.

I really like the ambience in this song. It gives kind of a space-y feel.

Aside from the drop, the song didn't get repetitive. I really liked the entire feel of this song. I think the length is perfect, and the rest of the songs should have been this long too.
